    Athletic Director/Director of Physical Activity and Wellness

    Greg Jarvis

    Greg Jarvis has been the North Carolina School of Science Durham’s Athletic Director since 2012. Some of NCSSM-Durham’s accomplishments under Jarvis’ direction in 13 years (12 playing seasons): include 13 State Championships, 72 Conference Championships, 9 Wells Fargo Conference Cups and 12 Straight Years of 9th or higher in the Wells Fargo State Cup (9 Top Five). He is serving his eighth year as a NCHSAA Conference President, currently with the Diamond Nine 1A/2A/3A. In 2024, he was a Workshop Presenter at the NIAAA National Athletic Directors Conference in Austin, Texas and also was a Facilitator at the 2019 conference in National Harbour, Maryland. He is certified CMAA, CAA, CIC and AIC. He has been a member of NACDA and the NIAAA since 2012. At NCSSM-Durham, he serves as Department Head of the Physical Activity and Wellness department, a member of Instructional Council and has served multiple terms on the Faculty Senate. He also served on NCSSM-Morganton’s planning committee and was instrumental in their athletics application into the NCHSAA. Previous to NCSSM, he was an Assistant Athletic Director and Sports Information Director at Meredith College
  • Head Athletic Trainer/Instructor

    Jackson Thompson

    Jackson Thompson ’13 joined NCSSM as Head Athletic Trainer and as an instructor for our Durham campus in August 2023. A native of Henderson, NC, and an NCSSM alumnus, he earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise science with a concentration in athletic training from the University of North Carolina. He holds a master’s degree in athletic training from Illinois State University. Prior to NCSSM, he served as an assistant athletic trainer for a multitude of sports at Elon University and Western Carolina University. He is passionate about building relationships, collaborating with faculty and staff, teaching students, and mentoring young professionals. He has previously served on committees for enhancing student-athlete resources such as nutrition and mental health, and currently serves on the young professionals committee for NCATA. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with family. His hobbies include collecting vinyl albums, music and sports trivia, and spending time outdoors.

    Assistant Athletic Trainer

    Rob Assadurian

    Rob Assadurian joined NCSSM as Assistant Athletic Trainer for our Durham campus in May 2023. A native of San Francisco, California, he earned a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology with an emphasis on athletic training and rehabilitation with a minor in athletic coaching from San Francisco State University. He holds a master’s degree in sports and fitness management from the University of San Francisco. Rob is a board certified and licensed athletic trainer. For more than 25 years, Rob has worked with a wide range of athletes at various levels — developmental, secondary, collegiate, and professional. While providing a high standard of comprehensive care, he organized and managed all medical records from insurance claims to treatment logs. In addition to his work in athletics, Rob has served in many roles as an administrator, educator, curriculum design/developer, coaches’ mentor, and athletic coach.

    Brian Gonyeau

    Brian Gonyeau joined NCSSM in February 2001 and instructs Physical Activities courses in addition to coordinating the after-school intramural sports program. Brian is a club sponsor for archery, badminton, and weight training. He also offers January Term topics like Orienteering, Strength Training, Disc Golf, and Top 10 Recent Trends in Fitness. Brian enjoys interacting with students outside of class to develop exercise routines to reach their personal fitness goals. Prior to coming to NCSSM, Brian taught physical education and coached basketball and baseball at the Indian River School District in Upstate New York.
