About NCSSM Athletics

Brains and athletic skills go hand in hand, and here at NCSSM we prove that!  There is an opportunity for everyone to play, and the students take advantage of the opportunities.  NCSSM offers opportunities at the 2A North Carolina High School Athletic Association level in 21 Varsity sports.

In addition to the varsity sports on campus, the NCSSM Intramurals program has a 95% participation rate.  Student’s residence halls compete against each other all for the hopes of winning the Chancellor’s Cup for both Men’s and Women’s Halls.   Students find that sports are a great way to release energy and that the discipline helps academically.

Under the leadership of NCSSM’s experienced coaches, many individuals and teams have won State Championships, received athletic scholarships, and competed at the Division I collegiate level.  In the past 8 years NCSSM has won State Championships in Men’s Soccer, Men’s Cross Country, Women’s Tennis, Men’s Tennis, Men's Swimming and Men’s Track and Field.  NCSSM has also won three Wachovia/Wells Fargo Cups in the school’s history, the last coming in the 2011-2012 school year.  For the past seven years NCSSM has finished in the top five 1A/2A schools in the state in the prestigious competition.

NCSSM is completing its last season as a member of the Northern Carolina 2A Conference. NCSSM has won the Wells Fargo Conference Cup two of the last three years. The conference includes Bunn High School, Durham School of the Arts, Franklinton High School, South Granville High School, Southern Vance High School, Roanoke Rapids High School and Warren County High School. Along with our conference foes, NCSSM also plays a variety of public and private schools in the Triangle area.

NCSSM will be a member of the Mid-State 2A Conference starting in the 2017-18 season. The conference will have seven members to include: Bartlett Yancey High School, Carrboro High School, Cummings High School, Durham School of the Arts, Graham High School, NCSSM and Reidsville High School.
